6 Instant Home Remedies for Headaches and Migraines:
There are three types of headaches - tension headaches, migraines, and cluster headaches (the worst of them all).
But regardless of the type, headaches are a big nuisance.
So if you are looking for instant home remedies for headaches (or migraines), then you are at the right place. Because in this article I am going to show you 6 effective ways of getting rid of your headache right from the comfort of your home.
#1 Stretch Your Muscles
Tension headaches are the most common type of headaches. And they are caused by muscle tension and fatigue.
So if your head is pounding away at the temples, do these following exercises for at least 10 - 15 minutes, and you should see some positive results.
Neck Stretches - First stretch your neck to the left. Hold it for 5 seconds. And then relax by coming back to the neutral position and staying there for 5 seconds. Repeat for the right side. Then up. And then down.
Keep switching sides and stretch. And don't forget to relax in between each turn.
You can even rotate your neck slowly. First in one direction, and then the other with relaxing periods in between.
Shoulder Shrugs - Lift your shoulders up. Hold it for 5 seconds. Then relax for 5 seconds. Repeat by pushing it down so you can feel the stretch all along your neck and shoulder. Relax. Then push it forward. And then repeat by pushing them back.
Make sure you relax between each switch.
#2 Ice Pack
Migraines are usually caused by dilated and throbbing blood vessels in your head. So use an ice pack and apply it to your temples to cool down your hot head and constrict these overenthusiastic vessels.
#3 Ginger and Lemon Water
Ginger is excellent at getting rid of headaches. And for this, you will need to grate some ginger (according to how strong you like the ginger-y taste) and add this, plus some lemon juice, to a pot of water and boil it for a few minutes.
Simmer this liquid and then sip it until your headache goes down.
And if you are not too keen on drinking this, simply boil grated ginger in water and inhale the steam with a cloth over your head.
Caution: Steam can burn your face! So make sure to let the boiling concoction rest for a while before you dip your head over the bowl.
#4 Mint Leaves
Mint leaves have menthol and menthone in them, which have a cooling effect when they touch your skin.
So grind some mint leaves into a paste and apply this over your forehead and temples whenever you get a nasty headache. The cooling effect will cure your headache fast.
#5 Tulsi Steam
Tulsi, or basil leaves, are found in most Indian homes. So if you are suffering from a nasty case of headaches, then simply pull out a handful of tulsi leaves, boil it in water, and then inhale the steam.
Caution: Steam can burn your face! Please allow the water to cool down for a while before you try inhaling the steam.
#6 Crushed Cloves
Cloves (laung) have a compound called eugenol in them that is a natural pain-killer. So whenever you get a bad headache, simply crush a few cloves, wrap it in a handkerchief, and keep sniffing the strong scent through the cloth until your headache goes down.
